Several events leveraging data to tackle climate change and sustainable development will be held during COP21. Etalab has put together an agenda to channel its engagement in support of this global effort. Here are the milestones of Etalab’s participation:
December 4
– 8.30am – 7.30pm (AFD): Climate Change Resilience in the Age of Data
The Agence Française de Développement (AFD), the think-tank Data-Pop Alliance, MIT Media Lab, and Overseas Development Institute (ODI) will bring together researchers and practitioners to explore the opportunities, challenges, and requirements for leveraging new data sources and analytical approaches to empower at-risk communities.
December 5
– 15:30 – 17:00 (Le Bourget): Climate Change Challenge (C3) Awards
The Climate Change Challenge (C3) has mobilized during one year the open data, datascience, and startup communities to address climate change issues with data. The organizing committee (SGMAP, MEDDE, Météo-France, La Mêlée, IGN, Etalab, CNES, MHNH, EDF, IRSTEA, ERDF) will introduce the C3 methodology and related datasets, followed by a pitch of the six challenge finalists. The Mexican open data team, which has organized a similar challenge over the past months, will introduce its approach.
December 6
– 17:00 – 19:00 (Grand Palais): Innovation for Addressing Climate Change in Paris
This conference aims at bringing together innovations related to energy transition and Paris’ economic potential. In particular, the ParIS Green platform, as developed by the Agence Parisienne du Climat and Parics&Co, promotes a sustainable economic development.
December 7
– 9:30 – 12:30 (Superpublic): Open Data Roundtable on Climate Change
The Government of Mexico, the Government of France (Etalab), and the Center for Open Data Enterprise will hold a workshop to develop a global approach to using open data to address climate change. The results will feed into the elaboration of a Climate Package, following the model of the recently launched Anticorruption Package, attached to the International Open Data Charter that France has adopted in October.

– 13:45 – 15:00 (Le Bourget): Data for Climate Action – UN Global Compact
The “Data for Climate Action” session will highlight opportunities presented by real-time big data to inform decision-makers about how populations are affected by – and influenced – climate change. In particular, the session will highlight how private sector companies can engage in “data philanthropy” to make data available for climate action.
Etalab expects to learn a lot from these different actors, approaches, and methodologies. Lessons drawn from the experience will be shared on this blog in the following weeks.

Lors de la COP21, plusieurs évènements feront levier sur la data au service du changement climatique et du développement durable. Etalab s’associe à cet agenda qui traduit son engagement en soutien de cet effort international. Voici les moments forts de la participation d’Etalab:
Vendredi 4 décembre
– 8.30am – 7.30pm (AFD): La résilience face au changement climatique à l’âge de la data
L’Agence Française de Développement (AFD), le centre d’études Data-Pop Alliance, MIT Media Lab, et le Overseas Development Institute (ODI), rassemblent des chercheurs et opérationnels autour d’un défi : utiliser la donnée pour renforcer la capacité des communautés vulnérables à lutter et s’adapter au changement climatique.
Samedi 5 décembre
– 15:30 – 17:00 (Le Bourget): Climate Change Challenge – Cérémonie de remise des prix
Le C3 est un challenge mobilisant citoyens, acteurs publics et privés, experts, étudiants et start-ups pour inventer des solutions concrètes au défi du changement climatique. Le comité organisateur (SGMAP, MEDDE, Météo-France, La Mêlée, IGN, Etalab, CNES, MHNH, EDF, IRSTEA, ERDF) présentera la méthodologie et les données associées au C3. Puis, les 6 lauréats pitcheront leurs projets. À la suite, l’équipe en charge de la politique d’open data au Mexique, qui a organisé un challenge similaire pendant les derniers mois, présentera sa propre démarche.
December 6
– 17:00 – 19:00 (Grand Palais): L’innovation au service du climat à Paris
Conférence dont l’enjeu est de faire converger la nouvelle donne de la transition énergétique et le potentiel économique de Paris. Notamment, la plateforme ParIS Green, développée par l’Agence Parisienne du Climat et Paris&Co, sera présentée comme un accélérateur de la green économie.
December 7
– 9:30 – 12:30 (Superpublic): Table ronde sur l’open data et le changement climatique
Le gouvernement du Mexique, le gouvernement de la France (Etalab) et le Center for Open Data Enterprise, organisent un atelier pour développer une approche globale de l’utilisation de l’open data au service du changement climatique. Les résultats de cette matinée de travail vont alimenter l’élaboration d’un Climate Package, suivant le modèle de l’Anticorruption Package récemment publié auprès de l’International Open Data Charter, adoptée par la France en Octobre 2015.
– 13:45 – 15:00 (Le Bourget): La data pour l’action climatique – UN Global Compact
La conférence mise à mettre en évidence les opportunités présentées par le big data en temps réel pour informer les preneurs de décisions sur l’impact du changement climatique sur les populations. Notamment, il sera question de comment les entreprises du secteur privé peuvent, à travers la « data-philantropy », mettre des données à disposition pour l’action climatique.
